Make It Count!
As I walk around my high school
With my backpack filled with heavy books and a computer case in my hand
I am accompanied by a girl, a beautiful girl
Whom I want to spend my entire life with
She looks at me like I am her equal
But in her mind, she is waiting for me to say something
I try to tell her my feelings and declare my love for her
But in the end, I never do until this very day
We sit down on the bench with our food
And begin to discuss the issues that trouble our minds
While she talks to me about something she read on Twitter
I am computing in my head how I will tell her my feelings
The words “Because I Love You” are more than words
When you say these words to someone that you hold dear to your heart
You are making many promises to them
So you’d better learn to keep promises
When you say “Because I Love You”
You are promising that you will be there for her
That you will make her laugh and be appreciated
That you will make her feel special
When you say “Because I Love You”
You are responsible for spending quality time with her
For listening to her when she has a problem
For being the man whom she has been searching for
When you say “Because I Love You”
You are committing yourself to kissing her when she wants a kiss from you
To envelop her in your arms when she feels cold
To finding a balance between each other so that both of you
May live in harmony together forever
However, if you break your promises
And you become too violent towards her
Never respond to her pleas when she needs you the most
Don’t take her to places she wants to go
Don’t respect her and cheat on her
Don’t make her feel special and appreciated
Then you have made a grave mistake
And she will walk out on you
And find another lover to call “Babe”
While you’re at the bar, late at night
Wondering what would have happened
If you had paid attention to her more often
And treated her like she was the only girl in the world you admired
As I think about these thoughts
She looks up from her phone and notices that I have gone into a daydream
She asks what I was thinking of
And I seize the moment to tell her my feelings
I know that it’s a big obligation to take on
But it’s worth it in the long run
So I have to make my words count
Especially the “Because I Love You” part
I take a deep breath and begin to talk to her
I say “I need to tell you something;
I like you and I want you to be my girlfriend.”
She stares at me in shock and asks why her
I respond to her, “Because I Love You”
And those are the words that I made important
Because after I had said them
We kissed each other and we knew
That we had found that special someone
