Make Me Human

I’ve made my choices, Played the hand that I’ve been dealt, But all I hear are voices, Tell me how I should have felt. ‘You left!,’ they scream, Flying accusations, Dazed, like a dream. Cruel sensations. Aren’t we all human, Same flesh, just skin and bones? Yet they glare icily, and speak In judging tones… What price must I pay? To be on your level? No Human Condition today, Shun me like a devil. Make me human, That’s all I could ask. Treat me like I’m alive, Should be a simple task. Yet here and the world over The high and mighty rise, Upon their high horse, addicted, Their ego twice the size Of the pain that they’ve inflicted. This is not a call for help. I know who I am. I know I am human. This is a call to the others like me. Who’ve felt low. Who’ve felt less than worth it. Your oppressors want you to feel like dirt. Like an insect beneath their boot heel. But rise above the hurt, Because you know what you feel. You’ve done what you can, Made peace with your actions, Your regret shows you mean it, So silence the factions. Your pain makes you human, More so than they, You’ve risen above them, so never say, “Make me human.”
