Make Your Mark

Make your mark,

Make the memories you will keep forver.

Make your time special.

Make every moment count.

Make your mark,

Learn to cherish the time you are given.

Strive to make the best out of it always.

Do not ever lose sight of hope.

Make your mark,

Before the time runs out,

Before there is nothing left but your tears and memories,

Before it's too late to turn back the clock.

Make your mark,

The times you share will be yours forever.

Never forget the past,

But never let it decide what your future will hold.

Two years ago, my uncle was diagnosed with ALS Lou Gehrigs disease, and nine short months after his diagnosis, he lost his battle. As a family, we united to help him do the things that were needed for his health and day-to-day activities. We all became very close, and that was the most important thing for him I think, for us all to be together. Although it was the toughest thing I have ever faced, he gave me an inspiration to do something more with my life. I am now going to be majoring in social work, so I can counsel ALS patients after I receive my master's degree. While he was still alive, I wrote this for therapy. Writing poetry was one of the only ways I could cope and make myself feel better. I read this poem at his funeral, and it was something that I feel really passionate about.
