Makes you wonder

Dear citizens, 

We drive down the road, hear those seeking for help, begging for one meal, one snack, one coin. We choose to ignore them, ignore their requests. Makes you wonder. Who was he? A slacker, an addict or a brilliant high school student who had much to say but no one to say it to, a hard working individual who had the potential to go to college but no money for it. Then he ended up here, on the streets, rattling his change cup.

We watch the news, hear them fill our heads with lies, biased stories. Makes you wonder or does it? We choose to listen to them, to believe their lies. Why? Because it’s easy, or because we are busy, busy with facebook, twitter, candy crush. Then we end up here, sucked into a world full of lies, letting them control us.

We accept their gratitude. They give out awards, awards that make us feel special. Makes you wonder. Why do they? So we follow them blindly, hand them our trust. So that they can watch us, control us, manipulate us any time of the day most suitable for them. Then we end up here, disrespected, betrayed, trying to get back up using the help of the same system that let us down.

We keep blaming them. Blaming them for their lies, teachings, our miseries. Makes you wonder. Who are “they”? Parents? Teachers?Government? Society? We are unaware, unaware of the fact that we are part of “them”. We control ourselves. There is no "them", it’s us, all of us, but we created a “them” to blame. So we end up here, angry, unaware of the truth, pointing fingers when in reality we should be searching, searching for a solution that saves us from us.

So move past wondering and start thinking critically.
