The Malus Domestica

If upon a deserted island, and stranded was me,

All I would want is an apple tree.

Could you imagine being stranded without any food?

That would do nothing to lighten the mood.

But with my honeycrisp apples accompanying me,

Tis a neverending feast that is always free!

And from this tree, more would come,

I would not even need the greenest of thumbs.

If the relentless sun is beating upon me,

It’s shade would resolve my somber pleas,

Oh what a pair the tree and me,

Deciduous and omnivorous, one has knots while the other has knees.

My boredom would be kept abay just fine,

Apples to juggle to pass the time.

Fruit for food, sticks for tinder, leaves for clothes,

The apple tree is a panacea, I know what I have chose.

Lastly the apple tree has wood that’s rather strong,

Upon making a raft, stranded, I would not be for long.
