Mama, aren't you Proud? (Jersey Devil)
Mama, you wanted me to be a devil
Mama, you swore you didn’t want me
Brothers, why didn’t she want me?
Sisters, why didn’t she want me?
The heavens opened up
sparkling arcs raced across the sky, heralding my propitious arrival
A cry carried through the night, louder louder louder louder
the reign of thunder was here
I was so perfect, Mama
didn’t you see?
bright blue eyes smiling at you
Mama, didn’t you like my eyes? I turned them red,
just for you
Didn’t you like my wings, Mama? I stole them from a bat,
just for you
Didn’t you like my talons, Mama?
petting your face?
your eyes looked so nice against the red, Mama
They laughed at me, Mama
they
screamed
Mama, you wanted me to be a devil
Mama, you swore you didn’t want me
Brothers, why didn’t she want me?
Sisters, why didn’t she want me?
I wrecked your chimney, Mama
I’ll clean it up later,
i swear
Their cameras are so bright, Mama
I’m famous
They looked so scared, Mama
so did you
My brothers were scared, Mama
My sisters were scared, Mama
Daddy was scared, Mama
Mama, you wanted me to be a devil
Mama you swore you didn’t want me
Look Mama -- now everyone knows
I’m a devil, Mama
Aren’t you proud?
