To Mama, A Quick 2016 Limerick

This past year has had its share of drama

Not to mention emotional trauma

But the one thing I’ll remember

At the end of December

Was the love we received from our mama

At times things seemed so bleak

Us children could hardly speak

But as we can attest

She calmed our distress

And remained consistent, week after week

Even when our car started squealing

And needed a complete re-wheeling

She told us “less talk

We had better walk”

And restored our capable feeling

I know this poem is unorthodox

And 2016 was full of hard knocks

But all should know, in sum

It was redeemed by our wonderful mum

Who gave comfort and joy with her long talks
