Mamaw

Your words were filled with wisdom.

And, your heart was made of gold.

Your hands moved in a rhythm,

But your face was still composed.

We share the same quick temper,

So we kneaded the dough hard.

It happened in November,

And caught us both off guard.

The cancer has come back.

That’s what the doctors said.

My world felt under attack,

But you just smiled instead.

We finished making dinner.

The tears were falling fast.

You said you were a winner,

But now you’re in the past.
