Mamma's Boy

Growing up poor

Mom always made sure

I could open any door

She said,

"Make the world yours"

She didn't see me get abused

She just made sure to stress

To never let a second go unused

This is all just a test

For what comes later

You've got to be prepared

"Stand up straighter"

She always showed she cared

Blessed with the best of what humanity had to offer

My only wish is that I could do more for her

But life doesn't reward those

Who hold out their heart

Who makes it to the pros

Was decided from the start

I'm writing this poem

To express my gratitude

To the one who made the house home

Don't get it misconstrued

I'm not a good poet

But I've got a lot of heart

And I really want to show it

That I've loved her from the start
