Man Mood
It looms up from the ground like a mist
An unseen shadow that blocks out all light
Engulfing, suffocating, constricting all positive thoughts,
Lungs fill with darkness and all hope is exhaled.
I feel Its intensity grow.
My smile is forced down as if weights cling to my lips,
Shoulders heavy with the burden of this grim passenger,
Wrenching, dragging, clawing at any joy that remains,
Until I’m underground, looking up from beneath the floor.
It tightens its grip.
Where it comes from I do not know,
Uninvited and without warning it looms in,
Wrapping, smothering, drowning all peace,
This blanket of hate gives no comfort.
It’s presence devours me.
It leaves as swiftly as it came,
Floating away to feed from another,
Expanding, swelling, sucking up life like a sponge,
And expelling all discontent.
I am free again.
