The Man Who Told Me To Smile

To the man who told me to smile,

Thank you for the nice gesture,

but I haven’t in awhile.

To the man who told me to smile,

I have been covered in a vesture of darkness.

Once in awhile, I see a glimmer of hope.

That hope quickly resides as I see the light is at the end of the dark, long aisle.

To the man who told me to smile,

I have been chasing the light for what it seems like is forever.

To feel the pleasure that the light brings to my life.

Will I ever catch up to it?

To the man who told me to smile,

Who knows?

For now,

I’ll smile anyway.

Sincerely,

   Skylar Hosford
