Maniac McGee

We can’t wake him.

No don’t wake Grandpa.

But see breakfast ready

He’ll come when he’s ready

If he’s ready

Breakfast is ready.

But don’t wake him

not from his bed

hospital bed

where all he sees is a chain-link fence

like the one that held him in

the one he slammed his son against

baby against.

He couldn’t play poker

in the Jeep

in the hole

on the beach.

He knows this.

So please.

don’t wake him.

Leoma

Lucy writes for herself because she is a selfish poet, but she sometimes stretches a bit and includes others, too. She is a senior in highschool in Chico, California, has won poetry contests in the local newspaper multiple times, and has had her poetry published in her school's poetry anthology multiple times. She hopes to use her poetry to inspire other selfish poets and keep herself sane.
