Maroon Desire

An old man whistles, woosh, whoosh, whee-whoosh, wooooo Long, green fingers dancing and mocking me Laughing with their round, hairy companions Plastic thongs and sun-kissed limbs strut in front Daisy dukes and triangle bras all ‘round “Less is more, less is more” is the motto Tinted eye umbrellas, fat and fancy They are oversized and costly plastic Could have bought me a pair of maroon desire Pale, cheery size 2 women I envy Frozen models arranged in glass windows Brandishing my only maroon desire Skintight, dyed denim racing in my head “Five more pounds, five more pounds,” I tell myself Anything to wear my maroon desire
