The Marriage

I only run faster

Knowing that I can’t escape you.

Your hold on my heart

Strengthens with each step.

These bruises are all too familiar

And the pain is nothing new,

But I’m so scared to breathe

Afraid of what you’ll do.

I seem to be running in circles

Always returning back to you.

Why can’t I escape this hell?

Then I look down at the ring

And remember the promises made

And I hope that one day you’ll change…
