Martyrdom

On the precipice, we stand,

In the dark of night.

Every grain of my being,

Is awaiting your sight.

When I stand here with my back towards you, I feel numb.

Because I’m facing the depths I’ve sworn to protect you from.

Your love is your loyalty.

Sometimes I forget.

But you’re just one man,

You’ve cast out your net.

We’re sinking here in the dark and the cold,

So my job’s not done until this tide’s controlled.

I’ll respect you with patience.

Or at least I’ll try.

So don’t ask if I love you.

My presence is the reply.

With my feet underwater and your heart as my oath.

I’ll do you a favor and not drown us both.
