Ma's 'merica

I live in a white man's society

Built from a black man's sweat

Carved by a dark faced woman

She had her children stripped from her

Her husband was beaten to death

So yes,

She sings those sad songs

No they are not negro spirituals

They are this black womans nightmares with her eyes wide open

She sits and takes care of a white woman's kids

Imagining they were her own

She dresses the pale faced children with the best tlc she can muster

And still she is looked at as just the help

She has mothered a nation

But she can not act like it
