the mask

underneath the eye shadow I have eyes that have seen death and life.

underneath the concealer I have skin that has been drowned in tears.

underneath the lipstick I have lips that have spoken the unspeakable.

underneath the earrings I have ears that have heard screams of joy and terror.

underneath it all I am but an observer: searching for the truth behind a mask.
