The Mask
It’s an expression; a figure of speech; a representation of me
I say that I wear a mask, and I know it’s true
I’m a person pretending to be someone I’m not.
I live in a world where no one understands the real me
I hide myself, from who I am,
Not letting no one know the real me.
I say no one cares,
But when I look around,
I have so many people that do care.
People say that they want to be my friends,
But I never let it happen.
Always scared of the hurt,
Petrified of what people might say,
Can’t bare the heart-ache,
I look around for acceptance or an approval
For something I know won’t happen.
I wish on a star for a way out
Counting the days til’ I’m gone.
One by one they go
Always there for people,
But they are never there for me.
