Masked

Masked

Alex Smith

She cries in the

dead of night

when all eyes and minds are at

rest she lies awake wondering why

they all look at her

as less than a

human being

asks herself

is it actually what they're seeing...?

but she starts agreeing

she starts believing

in their labels

stabled to her soul.

They ask:

but why?

why do even feel like that?

you shouldn't?

you should be fine?

your life is good!

you are such a fotunate girl?

lips like rose petals

gently bronzed skin

freckles sprinkled across her nose

absolute daydream

her thoughts just circle around and around

drowning in colorless irisis

it hovers in her lungs

and her vision is clouded as she

whispers a soft whistle of smoke

into the winter sky

her heart beats

a little steadier

she separates her lips

only for a moment

they shut back together like attracting magnets

her mind hiding behind

a pretty face
