Masks

We all wear masks to veil our lies,

We smile with our lips, but not with our eyes

We conceal and pretend, laugh and deceive

And people think what they want to believe

We cover the thought that clearly betray

Biting back what we mean to say

With lips of steel, the lies we wield

Are taken, believed and wholly sealed

How to discern the truths from lies?

To see through a fellow’s well-made disguise?

I do not know, I do not ask,

For I am one who dons a mask.
