Masks
No one can see me,
No, not who I truly am
They all see different projections of me,
Different masks that I hide behind
The versions of me that they want to see
Honors student, well trained daughter,
College bound, funny friend,
Always good for a laugh
I have stories for every scar
That marks my body
Something believable
I see them look, they notice them
But they never ask, they don't want to know
They don't want to believe that I
Am not who they want me to be
So I give them what they want
A smile when neccessary,
A story to make them laugh
While inside I am screaming, silently,
At the top of my lungs
Wanting someone to notice,
To show that they care
But no one asks
I drift through life silently,
Nothing but a shadow hiding behind
An elaborate mask
Asking myself why I don't just end it all
Because nobody would notice anyway
But I know that it is just a lie,
That someone cares
And that thought gives me enough hope
To make it through another day
Waiting and watching,
For someone who understands
