Mass Extinction

The world is waging a terrible war Fought in the streets, on the battlefields and in people hearts A terrible war with no conclusion in sight The wars justification Reason Essence Is what? That of peace Not peace in the sense that we know it as Not born out of love for thy neighbor Or- Charity to the disenfranchised Or freedom to the captives But peace in the sense of supreme security Weapons of Mass Destruction Chemicals of Obliteration Little suns stacked high ready to blow Lined up by the shores Aimed high Ready to go No one wail mess with us Who in the world could touch us? Who would dare try it? Madman that’s who Leaders of the free world and dictators to the captives Alike- Can’t seem to see A peace that brings no peace Is that which is placed on might and means Because peace and security born from stockpiles Will ultimately fade away with the passing of time As the neighbor gets bigger guns Better tanks Faster jets Ships that can dive deeper, store more, packin’ heat And suddenly you are no longer kind of the castle Just an ant Amebae Speck of dust in the terrible eye of vengeance Justifications Never cease Ceasefires Will breed contempt Contempt causes fever Fever Infects a nation The ultimate end to our little games of Capture the Flag Tag- Played on a mine infested fields Makes the mothers weep The fathers lay slain The children starved And a world pushed dangerously to close to the edge All for what? Peace… Peace? Oxymoronic statements Juxtaposed by one another On the backdrop of a world on the brink of… Mass Extinction
