MATA HARI
My fair lady
Temptress of liberty
At your will you’ve had millions, with
Your testimony of truth and golden streets
At your feet, at your steps
At the pebbles of your shores
Bend their knees; aliens have obliged to the
Torch of might, one of enlightenment
You wield with no sacrifice of difficulty
To see the light of day
Subjects pay tribute to your everlasting yet obsolete authority
My fair lady
Your charm is recognizable from any terrain
I see you there at the other end of the bay
With your green light, I presume to cherish you
But while the light is palpable, you escape my grip
Ever to observe you from afar at my shores
At my island
Caged away from your pristine paths
