Match Box

If I were on a deserted island

without a soul nearby,

I'd like to have a match box

simply so I would not die.

A match would light a fire.

A warm body I would be.

And in the dark of night,

it would surely help me see.

A match would also heat my food.

I would not eat raw meat.

If I could snare a rabbit,

that would be a treat!

A match would also purify water.

It is essential for my life.

Without this need our bodies require,

my life would end in strife.

A match could also be my savior.

Yes, it's true and that's no joke.

A plane or passing sea vessel

might see me 'cause of smoke.

Yes, a match box is what I need

if I find myself alone

on a mysterious deserted island

far away from home.
