Math

What happens to numbers
When we’re not using them?
Do they disappear
Or do they float around
Like dust
Being breathed, swallowed
Carried through bodies
Through each blood vessel
Do they then become part of us
Built into our bones
Crystallized
Tattooed on our brain
As if the brain were paper
Would they exist
If no-one had made them
When the dinosaurs were
Was there math?
If there wasn’t,
How could we now
Count the spikes on
A Stegosaurus
Or measure how high
A Brachiosaurus’s neck was
How could we measure their decline
If it weren’t for e and tangent lines
Is math something
We create or discover?
Yes.
