Maybe

When you go into surgery,

They numb you completely.

"You won't feel a thing" they say

But, I want to...

I want to feel their knife,

Caressing my skin.

Making a beautiful line.

Like a stroke in a painting.

They make their incision,

And go inside.

Exploring parts of me

No one is meant to see.

"We didn't find anything"

"Okay, so what now?"

"I guess, we'll just wait it out."

That's fancy doctor talk for, "I have no clue."

And now I wait.

Maybe they missed the cancer.

Maybe, there is something wrong with me.

I look down at the scar every single day.

"Maybe"
