Maybe

Tell me I matter,
And maybe I'll live.
Tell me I don't,
And I might still live.
It's not loved ones that keep me here,
Nor is it life itself.
It's the fear of the unknown.
Fear that I'll lose,
Something I might not know I have.
Fear my mind is playing tricks,
And I'll regret the darkness I've submerged myself in.

What if dying a slow death was painless?
What if the people you thought didn't care,
Actually did?
What if they would be happier,
To see you dead in a grave?

These thoughts have no power over my soul.
But their power over my mind,
Grows 10 times stronger with each passing day.

Tell me I matter,
And maybe I'll die.
These thoughts that I'm a burden,
They take my heart into delicate hands,
and stick sharp needles in the valves of which pump blood.

Tell me death will wake me up.
Tell me death will take the pain away.
Or else tell me my life has meaning,
Beyond the burden I have become.
