Maybe
Dear My Former Best Friend,
Maybe I should hate you. Maybe I should resent you.
Lord knows it would be a lot easier. And Lord knows you would probably deserve it.
Maybe I should be angry that you dragged my heart through the mud.
Maybe I should be angry that you promised you would always be there for me, and then left me time and time again, to run away with your new friends for your own personal enjoyment.
Maybe I should be angry that I missed so many opportunities, choosing to spend time with you, over so many other things- when you never would have elected to do the same.
Maybe I should be angry I missed out on so many friendships, choosing only to focus on yours.
Maybe I should be angry I wasted so many time or someone who didn’t care if I was there.
Maybe I should be angry that you caused me so many tears and sleepless nights.
Maybe I should yell at scream and you, and never speak or look at you again.
Or, maybe, I should thank you.
Maybe I should thank you for teaching me how to look out for myself.
Maybe I should thank you for showing me how to be happy on my own.
Maybe I should thank you, for teaching me how to heal.
And, maybe- no not maybe- I should forgive you, and thank you for teaching me how.
Love,
Your Former Best Friend
