Maybe Just Because

I’ve written this for a dead girl

She seemed so happy at the time

Shame to say that little girl died

I see her every Wednesday

On the corner of second and third

Between the wall and the bathroom mirror

And as time goes by

She gets thinner and thinner

I’ve written this for a dead girl

I’ve known her all my life

But she died a few years back

I see her every Wednesday

On the cornerstone of life

Too bad she’s dead

She was a pretty little thing

Now she’s in the box

Guess she wasn’t one for small talk

I’ve written this for a dead girl

She jumped off peer pressure

And decided to be different

I see her every Wednesday

Now she’s six feet under

Guess she wasn’t all that different

I’ve written this for a dead girl

She brought life into us all

But the life she was bringing

The life was her own

I see her every Wednesday

She’s too dead to do it now

I’ve written this for a dead girl

I see her every Wednesday

She smiles to me

But deep down I see the hidden pain

So I take deep breaths

When I see the scars on her veins

I’ve written this for a dead girl

Because she gave me strength

I see her every Wednesday

When I put flowers on her grave

She wasn’t afraid to make mistakes
