Maybe one day
You hide from the guys
Who call you names because you're different
You hide from who you are
Because your parents are disgusted with you;
You hide from the church
Because if they knew what you did you wouldn't be welcomed back there;
You hide from your emotions
Because men don’t cry
You hide from Love
Because how could anyone love you;
You hide from yourself
Because that person in the mirror looking back at you isn’t you;
At age 10 it was different
We had no worries
We were all so innocent
Now we sit here in a room being fed information
No not being fed but being forced to choke down whatever society tells us!
They tell you to listen
But you have a voice
They tell you to stay
But all you want to do is go
They tell you to go back in the closet
But all you want to do is be you
They tell you not get drunk
But it is the only thing that makes you better
They tell you not to smoke
But it makes you feel normal
They tell you not to get high
But it is the only time you smile
Maybe one day my parents will stop calling me a fuck up
Maybe one day my brothers will understand
Maybe one day I won't have to get shit faced to feel normal
Maybe one day I won't need drugs to make me smile
Maybe one day my father won’t come home drunk
Maybe one day my parents will get back together
Maybe one day I won't have to hide
Maybe one day I will stop being called a Faggot or Fruity
Maybe one day society will have no hold on me
Maybe one day I’ll look in the mirror and love the person looking back
Maybe one day it will get better
Maybe one day it will all just stop
But until that day comes
I'll stand
On my own
Against all odds
Because I am worth it.
