Maybe Shut Up

Location

"Just go to bed.

Don't say a word, don't look in the mirror,

just go to bed."

You'd be amazed how much less I'd regret

If only I ever listened.

Mama said to eat a bite,

keep quiet,

and get some beauty sleep

before I bit someone's head off.

It's not my fault the hours tick

away my practiced restraint;

that every passing waking moment

wears away at the filters and manners and smiles

and leaves an angry octogenarian

in it's place.

It's like magic when I listen.

the maiden awakens the next day,

but only if I listen to what mama has to say:

"Just go to bed.

Don't say a word, don't look in the mirror,

just go to bed."
