Maybe Someday

They say to understand someone you have to walk a mile in their shoes

Well I’m sure that’s been proven undeniably true

But it all sounds rather exhausting

And most people rather sit around simply existing

They sacrifice understanding for the sin of sloth

And it’s not a rarity, we’re all cut from the same cloth

Words let us ponder what our bodies can not

Pushing past boundaries as if we’re searching for something we forgot

Whether it’s love or hatred or somewhere in between

We’re given a tool to think about what our feelings really mean

Rather than letting those emotions fester inside

Poetry allows us to throw away our disguise

No more hiding our away because we’re scared of feeling

We can celebrate our thoughts and begin healing

And maybe one day we’ll truly understand

The power of words and what they command
