Maybe They Aren't Real
What if for a moment you aren’t you,
Just nothing, just watching, just there,
What if you are only looking at you,
From whatever angle until you’re no longer appealing,
A story you’re too bored with to finish,
In a world that’s not what you wanted, not needed,
What if you aren’t real?
Then no one else is.
Those memories made are not yours,
The ones that sneak back up aren’t anyone’s,
The nights of stiffening cold you never felt,
The searing hot sweat on your brow never happened,
The resentful comments you never heard,
Those dreary days never came to be,
You stepped away from yourself,
What you will never be.
You never heard the rains threatening roars,
Nor the thunders shuddering quakes,
They never kept you awake,
Never danced or cried,
Never slumbered when tired,
You will never dream, not that you did,
You won’t ever be jarred awake from the nightmares,
They don’t exist,
How will they if you never did.
The people you see you don’t,
The laughter you hear is deafened,
Their sadness you ignore,
Their belief is fake and so is yours,
What they undergo you don’t,
You never met another soul,
Never had a heartbeat,
Never had breath,
The days you lived didn’t happen,
There is no such thing as right and wrong,
No such thing as fair,
You couldn’t do anything even if you tried,
What is there if there is none of this?
If you aren’t real,
Then no one is,
Then they are just figments,
They are nothing,
They won’t exist anymore,
They won’t be real,
Then you’re free,
And still lonely.
