Maze of White

No one could have expected this. My aunt tried to distract me from the task at hand, However, the children’s guide to surgery wasn’t doing a great job. I felt peace as I waited for them to call my name. And then, They did. We gathered in a circle as the pastor said a prayer. “Grant the doctors wisdom, and the child strength.” My parents and I were led through a maze of white. I would rather have gotten lost in the maze than end up here. An over lit room, Filled with nurses, like soldiers on a mission. I waited once more. “If you’ll follow me, I can show you what’s going to happen,” invited the surgeon. I already knew, no big deal. My face went pale as he explained the new procedure. “It’s very simple, you see.” He had to be kidding. “I’m not going through with this,” I remarked. “You have to,” said my mother. I didn’t care. Once more I traveled. “Any questions,” the nurse asked. “Can I go home,” I questioned. The answer was no. The rails of the hospital bed trapped me, The IV made me a puppet on a string. We prayed once more, this time for peace. My stomach was in knots as the anesthesiologist entered the room. “If you cry, I’ll cry, too,” he warned. Was that supposed to be funny? Whatever, just do your job. “I promise you won’t fall asleep.” And within seconds The world disappeared.
