ME

I’m not who you thought I’d be Getting here has been exhausting Looking back I’m starting to feel free… I’m not who you wished me to be Constantly fighting off bad memories The ones only few close to me got to see… I’m not who you thought I’d be Living in plain sight yet never to be seen Wishing I had the powers to foresee … I’m not who you wished me to be Music playing while smelling the rain in the breeze Emptiness of my heart makes it hard to breathe… I’m not who you thought I’d be Hunting for truths that I may never be told Afraid of losing the ones I’ve grown to know… I’m not who you wished me to be Everything’s working against me Maybe it’s not as simple as it seems… I’m not who you thought I’d be This young heart sings to it’s own beat An old soul that’s floating downstream… I’m not who you wished me to be Striving to be everything for everybody Only to feel like I’m a nobody… I’m not who you thought I’d be Trying to finish something I’ll probably never complete Disappointing each of you endlessly… I’m not who you wished me to be Being strong isn’t all it’s cracked up to be These eyes have seen so many things… I’m not who you thought I’d be As quick as I fix things they dissolve in front of me Feeling like I’m not as good as I think… I’m not who you wished me to be My life has been nothing like I dreamed It’s been everything but nothing like it seems… I’m not who you thought I’d be Constantly changing so I don’t repeat This vicious cycle of me being me…
