Me
Did you seek me
you saw my face
whether joyous or sad
but was that me?
Or just a show
of emotion that will pass.
Did you hear me
when I spoke
or did you hear a voice
that express
what you like to hear?
Have you really
took the time
to know me
that somewhere
in that mortal fame
hides a frail
and lonely child.
That wants to love
and be loved
that wants to talk
and be heard
that wants to share
the simple things
that beauty of nature
the small
but great wonder
of God.
That delights in creating something beautiful
with her hands
which says
this is what I feel inside.
That uses the pen
to spill
what she cannot say
from her lips
of the great emotion
that overflows inside.
Do you know me?
Have you even heard me yet?
I laugh
when inside me cries
I talk silly
when inside me
really sighs
I walk quickly
afraid that you might see
how much I would like
someone to just stop
and talk with me.
Do you know
there is really two of me
the one inside
and the one, I let you see.
Do you dare
to take the time
to knock on the door
of this little child
would you
if I open
enter
and stay a while.
If I told you of my fears
would you understand,
or would you sneer
If I told you I was weak
would I hear it
somewhere
along the street.
If I told you
how I really feel
would you smile
and say
You ought to put her
out on the Hill?
No, I’m afraid
you wouldn’t like to know
so I close, and lock
the inner door
and watch through the windows of her eyes
all this world
as it passes by
and showing you
what you want to see
but is that really
the one called me.
