ME

 My family and community mainly have shaped my goals, aspirations, and decisions I have and will make in many ways. My mother is a goal oriented, passionate woman. She would always give me advice such as “Do it right the first so there won’t be a second”. She is the puzzle piece that keeps me not only focused but also particularly driven. My father is a rational, humorous man. Through the trials and tribulations, my family has endured; he has always been the life savior that has kept my family afloat.  He is the piece to the puzzle that structures me to humble and open-minded. My older sister gives me wisdom and advice through situations she have experienced. While my younger sister provides me with imagination and creativity as we play dolls and explain the wonders of the world. I look at my family as bits and pieces that make up me.

I have always lived in the south suburbs of Illinois. Growing up, I did not live in the best or worst of neighborhoods. My family seemed to stay on the fence about choices of neighborhoods. Watching neighborhoods build and fall apart have made it my responsibility to help neighborhoods in need and push those communities to help others. I now volunteer at the Chicago’s Shedd Aquarium, After School Matters, Chicago Cares, and my mother’s women’s youth counsel organization, She’s F.I.T.
