'Me'

I've walked millions of miles in the shoes of others,

but it's time to put on my own.

I stare down at feet covered in struggles,

struggles belonging to the world but not to me,

where are mine?

How can I be me?

I don't know who 'me' is yet, but I'm determined to meet her.

She's probably smart, likely kind, I hope she's pretty.

I hope she has dreams and I hope she has goals

and I hope she knows where she's going.

Maybe she climbs mountains, or dives under the waves.

Maybe she's a writer and maybe she can sing.

I hope she can sing, I've always liked music.

I think she likes animals, maybe she likes plants too,

maybe she would like to study them some day.

Maybe she wants to be an astronaut, or a vet, or an actress.

Anything is fine by me.

She can be whoever she wants as long as she can be her with me.

I want to know this girl, this me, help her reach her dreams.

I'd like to be the person closest to her, I'd like to be her friend.

I'm not sure if I know her, but I miss her, and I think maybe she misses me.

I knew her in the past, and I hope to know her in the future,

but now she's a blur.

I lost her for awhile and I'm still not sure if I can get her back.

Me, I'm sorry that we aren't friends right now, but I'd like it if we were.

We can go hiking or eat picnics in the park.

I'm sure you've got a pet or two that I would love to meet.

We can start over, you and I.

I'd love that, I'd love the chance to know you.

All I really want is to be 'me.'

I love this. It's a really creative, and it's the type that stands out from the rest of the I am... Scholarship poems I read. Good job.
