Me

Speak to me

Even when I don’t speak back

Speak to me

Even though I won’t make eye contact

Speak to me

Even when my speech doesn’t make sense

Speak to me

Even though you think that I am weird

I can’t help it

When I can’t understand your words

I can’t help it

When I annoy you with my actions

I can’t help it

When my senses get overloaded

I can’t help it

When people realize I am not like them

That’s just who I am

I don’t make friends easily like other kids

That’s just who I am

Accept that I get overwhelmed quicker than most?

Could you ever really accept me?

Accept that I am different in so many ways?

It’s just what I do

I freak out with bright lights and loud noises

It’s just what I do

I eat my food in a very strict way

It’s just what I do

I stick to my rituals and I never stray

It’s just what I do

I do things that you will never understand

I don’t like it

When you touch me and mess with my hair

I don’t like it

When too many things happen at once

I don’t like it

When I am forced into social situations

I don’t like it

When you point out my idiosyncrasies

Because that’s me!

The girl that listens to voices in her head

Because that’s me!

The girl that sees everything in patterns and hates surprises

Because that’s me!

The girl that just wants to be left alone

Because that’s me!

The girl with Asperger’s
