Me Against the World

Sweat runs down my neck as my hands begin to tremble

In a world that doesn't appeal to me

Who am I? Who am I meant to be?

They said I could never be anything, that I could never be successful

Who am I? Who am I meant to be?

My heart begins to skip a beat as fury rages in my dark brown eyes

Images of my dark and lovely ancestors float throughout my mind

Who am I? Who am I meant to be?

My knees began to give out as I fall to the ground

I can't lose this battle, I can't lose this fight

It's me against the world

I see the pain and suffering that my people face

It's me against the world

Slowly fading away as I try to prove my own worth

It's me against the world

I will not let my ancestors' deaths remain in vain

The world does not see my abilities but the darkened color of my skin

but I can't give up, I am not a quitter, and I will win

In a world that doesn't appeal to me

Who am I? Who am I meant to be?
