Me and the Tree

When I look back on my life

I represent myself as a tree

Growing tall, and standing strong

Focusing on my nature to prove what I can be

When I look back on trees

They face darkness and storms

And within that

I see their admirable beauty

Because I too

Have been through

Darkness and storms

That range long and rain hard

Without realization you begin to see

How much the storms age the tree

The water, encouraging its growth

The darkness bringing out its light

You see

I am that tree

All of that darkness and pain

Of my past

It has aged me

And over time

I've began to see I was not just a branch

Or a root, no more

Because I was a beautiful tree

All grown up and facing life

Through the light, and the dark

The warm and the cold

All of the lessons that were taught

Has aged my soul

Now I must move on

Continue to flourish

Because I am beautiful

Inside and out

Just like the tree
