To the Me that I Used to Be

The Me I used to be, used to be a brunette

We’re blonde now, but we want to go back to the Me I used to be.

The Me I used to be wasn’t in love

Now we say we are, but we aren’t so sure

I wish I could ask the Me I used to be.

The Me I used to be wanted so much to be accepted

I’m sorry the Me I used to be

I still want to be.

The Me I used to be feared God

Now we fear losing God

I wouldn’t go back to the Me I used to be.

The Me I used to be would never hurt a fly

We only hurt ourselves now

I would make you sad the Me I used to be.

The Me I used to be didn’t make people laugh

We make people laugh even when we don’t try to nowadays

I would make you  laugh the Me I used to be.

The Me I used to be worked so hard

We still work just as hard, but no one sees it anymore

You would be disappointed the Me I used to be.

The Me I used to be might be proud of the Me I am today.

Sometimes I miss the Me I used to be.

But we’re excited to meet the Me we are tomorrow.
