ME vs Liquid

Dear mother,

You should have been my role model

But instead you’re someone

I pray I won’t end up like

You dowse your sorrows in alcohol

In hopes that the damaging liquid

Will absorb your them

So that they will never again surface

But instead of deteriorating your sorrows

You’ve deteriorated me

Withering away all my hope for you

The liquid is your focus

Not me

For this reason I do not look up to you

I glare down

Forever awaiting the day that your daughter

Will come before the liquid

Sincerely,

Your daughter
