Meanings
Words are a veil
People hide behind them
To assume before you know
Is to believe what isn’t true
But how to tell
What’s real
A mischievous smile
Or an innocent grin
A snide remark
Or a simple statement
Why is it so hard
To decipher the meaning
Behind everything
I over analyze
Every word that leaves a mouth
Searching for disdain, dislike
Almost like I want to find them
To have an excuse
For being alone
Words slip out of my mouth
I can’t pull them back in
Horror runs through my veins
Hoping they won’t leave
After seeing the darkness
That runs in my thoughts
Through my head
The words
“Be yourself”
Are so easily said
Yet can be so misinterpreted
So hard to accomplish
Pretending to be something you’re not
Until you are
Mimicking, faking, they’re all the same
They all change you
For better
Or worse
You’re different than the way you were
The meaning behind
Every word you say
Changes the longer
You pretend
Being yourself around others
Unfurling your petals
Makes you vulnerable
You feel like curling up into a ball
And never coming out of it
People come and go
You still feel the same
Can you only trust in yourself
Will everyone let you down
The questions turn in your mind
As you stare at your ceiling
Watching the fan spin around and around pointlessly
Like it’s trying to tell you
You’re doing the same
Don’t waste your time

Your Poem's Voice
Explores abstract concepts (authenticity, trust, language) rooted in personal anxieties and introspection.
Multiple ideas per 10 lines: identity, language interpretation, vulnerability, pretense, isolation woven densely.
Predominantly anxious, self-doubting, melancholic tone with existential worry; limited positive moments.
Internal psychological turbulence conveyed through questioning and introspection rather than explosive language.
Approximately 80 lines; extended meditation across multiple stanzas and thematic developments.
Consistent metaphors (veil, petals, spinning fan), personification (words slipping, fan telling), some simile.
Pure lyric voice; internal monologue examining own thoughts, anxieties, and self-perception throughout.
