The Measurement of Time

It’s funny how quickly time passes by. One moment you’re a little kid playing dress-up and pretending to be a super hero. You remember imagining what it’d be like to be a princess in a big castle. Everything was intriguing and new with so much to discover and so much to do. You twirl around at your very first dance recital and you see your parents smiling from the front row. You can still remember that Christmas morning and giggling excitedly as you open your first doll house. The atmosphere was warm and filled with joy. Then there’s the moment you’ll never forget; the way your heart flutters when you lay eyes on your first crush. Your emotions are so foreign and unknown that you think you might be in love. As you grow, things begin to change. You become aware of the world’s true ways. Time spreads friends apart and your first love breaks your heart. Suddenly fairytales no longer exist and you’re surrounded by broken promises. Sometimes you wonder how you ended up here. Where did that little girl go? The one who danced fearlessly around on her tip-toes? The girl who lived in a place where discouragement and lies were just a thing of the unknown? It seems just like yesterday when life was so simple and sweet. Sometimes you wish you could go back to the beginning; before you knew of the world’s darkness and calamity. So you dream of a future day when time stands still and there’s no more pain. Only then will we all dance and sing with the same innocence that a child sees.
