Med School Bound
Pressure,
pressure is all i feel when thinking of the multitude of requirements that are being asked of me.
Self sufficiency,
my motivation to be greater than I am, but yet not still a dependent of which I still am.
I work day by day towards a goal, of which I am not guaranteed but rather almost deterred from by the mentality of others that it is unreachable and not in my future.
Obstacles are thrown at me from every which way, creating a step ladder that is becoming harder and harder to climb when I am only so tall.
When asking what I can do to increase my prospects or my performance, rather than a hopeful constructive criticism, I am given a different career choice.
How do we ask of society and our future growing generations to be whatever they choose to be, but give them the false hope because then when reality hits we tell them it's probably not a likely aspect in their future.
Why do we tell students that they can be a police officer but then when a woman tries to grow in the ranks she is set aside because of her gender?
Why do we assume that when someone tells a friend or relative that their youngest has just become a nurse that he/she is automatically assumed to be a she?
Why is it today that in the United States those that have not worked, have not been to college, or tried to further their education, receive greater financial and moral support then those who have?
Why is it that we are motivated to rather be a divorced couple then to remain in holy matrimony because it will give our future sons and/or daughters more of an opportunity to receive financial aid?
All these questions go unanswered, and yet we still make promises to our misguided youth that they can become anything they are aspiring to.
As the stairs that are being created by these questions and obstacles grow in incline, I continue to climb and attempt to move mountains.
I can only ascend and push for so long until fatigue begins to become more of a reality, and my loans start to become a boulder to large to carry with me up the stairs.
However, despite the obstacles, despite the increasing steps, despite the counterintuitive remarks of other career options, I am still climbing.
Would of, could of, should of's will never be something of my future, nor my past. But instead, will be, is, and has beens.
As I rise I look up, I see pressure.
Pressure not from my struggles anymore, but instead from my passion.
Passion to reach the ultimate recognition at the top awaiting me.
Passion fueling the pressure to continue to climb and eventually become a physician.
so as of now .. all I see is pressure.
