The Media's Face

The media has a face that border’s Harvey dent.

One side might be as nice as a suit, but the other borders insanity;

Insanity and death that strikes out our souls.

We fall into the trap and conform just like the rest.

We bite into the fruit that tells us exactly what to do.

We are told what to be, we are told how to look

We are told who to model our own life after.

Goodbye originality, it’s as dark as original sin.

Cast out of the Garden of Eden, we are cast out of ourselves.

The temptatious fruit in a form of a woman, a man, an object we have or have to be.

We live in the wifi and don’t think at the speed of light.

We respond in megabites and feel through texted faces.

We lose how to talk, how to converse, how to relate.

Identity is lost in the horror of every day.

Just a number, just an email, just an identification code.

I don’t have a name known off the chat, off the media.

A google, a click, and my life’s an open book.

Just an informal meeting and I’m judged with one look.

The story is lost, the name forgotten, the picture distorted:

Fake meets fake in a Brave New World.

We live through AI’s and we are losing our zest.

Our intelligence, our ambition, our desires deplete

In this crazy technology centered on human pleasure.

The tech advances so the humans downgrade.

The media casts a cloud over who we are and all together make it 1984

With Big Brother watching our every move in this digital realm.

No longer alone, no longer unique, no longer a person but a thing.

From individual to object with the click of a button

and an object to one of many by the media’s snake-like face.
