meet and greet: thoughts on issues, cats and dottiness

putting my finger on it
attention on the narrow field in view
concentration, respiration, infatuation
meet and greet with issues of old
signing in and registering the new
the fine line of self-absorption
and personal growth is so often muted
silent sessions spent with my favorite cat
as she purrs, she settles me
a prescription for a perfectly quiet moment
how many achingly, alive moments do we have?
how can you ever expect them?
human being with a purring partner
a quiet house
an awareness of the air,
the light
and all sounds:
television
fan
a distant video game
all noises bounce off of that moment
camera pans out from this couch
a couch within a house
upon a street
zagged between the zigs of roads
and highways
nudging the ocean
touching, reaching out to another sand
attached to different roads
that don't zig all that differently
another house
another couch, couches, mats, futons, boxes
all cradled on this blue ball
i am a dot aware of it's own dottiness
all of those aforementioned issues
the old the new
meeting and greeting
marrying, carrying each other
my own
they just don't measure up to the pure pleasure
of knowing, of realizing, appreciating this existence
to the excitement mingled with anticipation
accentuated with just enough  timidity, audacity and awe
of creating each tomorrow

Poetry is an outlet for me, but also a way to try and understand others. Music is poetry accompanied by beautiful sounds.. I have just turned 60 but have been writing poetry for about 20 years as a way of understanding 'stuff' (stuff=feelings, reactions, sorrow, etc). Reading others' words and writing my own brings me joy (insert various reactions here depending on the writing and/or my state of mind :) )
