Melancholy Doll

Large eyes stare downcast

Looking at nothing in particular,

Curly eyelashes placed gently atop them,

No radiance of life

On their pale porcelain skin,

Heart shaped lips painted,

Not as a smile

Not as a frown

Neither happy

Nor sad

A feeling of nothing at all

A hole in the soul

An absence

Empty

Dusty

A hollow doll

But let me ask you,

When you pictured this doll

Did you see a reflection of yourself?

Because inside of most every soul

There is a piece,

Sometimes no smaller than a sliver

That houses a melancholy doll.
