Melanin Magic

Dear Black Girl,

Oh you sweet innocent thing,

Know your strengths but drop your weaknesses

Drop that baggage on the floor like a bad habit

It won't hold you back no more

Now you can truly flex your complexion and not have to hide in the shadows

Wondering "Am I too dark? Too light?

That baggage was melanin

Now you can open your baggage full of black girl magic

It's comprised of honey, bits of chocolate and the sweet smell of confidence

Your curls will never be out of style

And no you cannot touch my hair

Don't let anyone tell you different

You are the epitome of magic

Insightful, beautiful but not prideful

Definitely a handful

As a young girl things can become tragic

When a black girl loses her magic she picks up the baggage

And begins to trudge through life like a bad habit that can't be shook

Then she tries to shake the habit

We she does the magic in her eyes appears to show

The magic you hold will continue to grow

No more games or metaphors this about making sure you know what's yours and knowing that black girl magic will always be yours

Sincerely, A Strong Black Woman
